New Executive Director

The HALO Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Cristalina “Nina” Thillemann has been hired as the new Executive Director of HALO, Inc., Racine’s largest general population homeless shelter.  Nina, who currently serves as HALO’s Finance Director, brings a wealth of experience working with nonprofits to the position as well as a deep, compassionate understanding for those experiencing homelessness.

Leadership Transition to Start in Spring 2020

[RACINE, WISCONSIN, December 10, 2019] The HALO Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Cristalina “Nina” Thillemann has been hired as the new Executive Director of HALO, Inc., Racine’s largest general population homeless shelter.  Nina, who currently serves as HALO’s Finance Director, brings a wealth of experience working with nonprofits to the position as well as a deep, compassionate understanding for those experiencing homelessness.

“Working for the Homeless Assistance Leadership Organization is a blessing. My passion is to serve and help others in need. I’m grateful for the opportunity to carry out HALO’s mission as the Executive Director,” she said. “As the Executive Director, I will provide leadership to the staff in serving every client with compassion, as well as making the community more aware of the needs of the homeless population in Racine County. The retention of donors and volunteers, as well as seeking out new donors and volunteers are important goals for me in my new position.”

Gai Lorenzen, current HALO Executive Director since March 2017, said she is very happy with the Board’s choice of successor.  The official transition period will begin in April 2020. 

 The Board expresses our full confidence that Nina is the right person to continue to make HALO the best place for our clients to begin their journey to self-sufficiency and stable housing. “Nina is very well known in the community and has the passion and skill set to help HALO continue to have success and accomplish our mission,” said Board President, Jim Henderson.
