Featured Board Member: Dr. Paul Durbin – A Heart for Service and Community at HALO

At HALO, our mission is driven by the passion and dedication of many individuals, and our Board of Directors plays a crucial role in guiding our vision and impact. This month, we are delighted to shine a spotlight on Dr. Paul Durbin, a remarkable board member whose commitment to serving our community runs deep.
Dr. Durbin is currently in his second term on the HALO Board, now in his fifth year of dedicated service. His journey with HALO began long before his board tenure; as an active member of Grace Church, he was already regularly serving our residents, making him a natural choice when former Board President Jim Henderson extended the invitation. Paul has since become a key liaison, further strengthening the vital partnership between Grace Church and HALO. This connection also extends to his family, including his mother, whose strong ties to Wheaton Franciscan have helped foster a generous donor relationship with HALO.
An Internal Medicine physician with Ascension Wisconsin in Racine, Dr. Durbin brings a wealth of empathy and a desire to heal to all aspects of his life. His commitment to HALO is truly a family affair. He and his wife, Jennifer, are parents to eight children, and they currently also care for two foster children, making a bustling household of ten! This dedication to nurturing young lives extends to HALO, where he and his children frequently share their musical talents, playing the box drum and guitar, and sharing uplifting testimonies. They often bring young adults from Grace Church to join in worship, fostering a vibrant, multigenerational spirit at HALO.
"I think fostering gives great opportunities for our children to serve others. Just as Christians, we want to love each person as being valuable in God's eyes," Dr. Durbin reflects on his family's commitment to foster care. This deeply held belief in the inherent value of every individual clearly informs his passionate service at HALO.
Beyond his regular service and board duties, Dr. Durbin is also a familiar face at HALO events. He was a memorable participant in the "Great HALO Cake Off Champion" of 2020, securing a respectable second place after a friendly rivalry with Jim Henderson! He also played a key role in setting up the successful 2024 “Strike Out Homelessness” bowling event. Looking ahead, Paul is enthusiastic about HALO's future under the leadership of our new Executive Director, confident in her vision and direction. He is also actively involved in upcoming fundraising initiatives, always seeking new ways to support HALO's vital work.
Dr. Paul Durbin embodies the spirit of compassion and community that is central to HALO's mission. His unwavering dedication, both personally and professionally, is an inspiration to us all. We are incredibly grateful for his leadership on the Board and his family's heartwarming contributions to our HALO community.
Thank you, Dr. Paul Durbin, for your service at HALO!
